The Jensen stock speaker is actually not a bad speaker but you need to break it. Most reviews I read said the stock speakers sound harsh on highs and/or farty on lows. Don't listen to all the hype over the BillM stuff, listen with your ears and not your eyes. I have modded and I have left stock, the mods are cool, but they didn't make a big impact to my ears. What does make a huge impact is the speaker selection.

BUT I goose the amp with an 'always ON' Blues Driver- which adds some presence to the amp, but also enables me to roll from clean to OD with just my guitar Volume knob, instead of stepping on a 'lead' pedal - just works better like this for me.

The BV-30H was really that close sonically or close enough where the compromise was negligible?

Well I got to put a BJ IV through the paces today. IMHO I would forget about spending $300 on an older one then spending a small fortune on mods ... the BJ ver IV kicks a$$. No mods required. It is a completely different and much better sounding than any other versions. Why hassle? In the worsd of Sam Cooke "A change gonna come".
