Over the years I've seen plenty of posts where people used 35 inch tire on the stock carrier. Sometimes it works, sometimes it cracks, sometimes it pulls on the welds on the hinge. Your best bet is to stick with the 50 lb limit on the carrier otherwise you are just rolling the dice on whether or not your carrier/tailgate will hold.
