1. Toilet paper

Toilet paper is at the top of everyone's must-have list right now. And it makes sense—no one wants to run out of the one thing you use multiple times every single day.

2. Hand sanitizer

It's no secret that there's been a run on hand sanitizer —but while it may be hard to find, it isn't impossible. Our Reviewed editors found you can still buy hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes at certain retailers online to be shipped to your house or picked up curbside at the store.

3. Cleaning wipes and spray

Just as important as keeping your hands clean is keeping your home clean. That's why disinfecting wipes and spray—which are on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) approved list of disinfectants —are just as tough to find as hand sanitizer.

4. Paper towels

Toilet paper isn't the only paper product that's hard to come by these days— paper towels are also selling out at many stores. That's likely because the CDC recommends using paper towels to clean and disinfect your home to protect against coronavirus.

5. Hand soap

According to the CDC, the best way to prevent the spread of germs—and more specifically, coronavirus—is to wash your hands regularly. And for that, you'll need hand soap, which is sold out at a lot of stores. Fortunately, our team has discovered you can still find it at retailers like Target and Staples online.

6. Diapers

New parents and caretakers alike are stocking up on diapers —which means they're becoming harder and harder to find in stores. That's where Reviewed's product-tracking prowess comes in handy.

7. Thermometers

With one of the most common symptoms of COVID-19 being a fever, thermometers have become a popular purchase.

Don't give in to the urge to panic-buy

Costco COO Ron Vachris confirmed that bare shelves are being caused by people buying things more quickly than usual. "Our stores are getting stocked every day," he said. "Transportation is functioning, our suppliers are working around the clock and the flow of goods is strong."

You don't probably don't need as much food as you think

While it's important to have some canned goods and household essentials in store in the event of an emergency, you probably don't need to stock up as much as you think you need to in the current pandemic. Dr. Keith Roach, an internist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, told Men's Health that people should have two weeks of supplies at home.

What else should you stock up on?

It's also smart to have some cleaning supplies on hand, but again, don't go overboard. You only need bleach and hand soap to keep your house clean during the outbreak. "You can't find things like rubbing alcohol or Clorox wipes because people are in a panic," pandemic planner and crisis management expert Regina Phelps told CNBC Make It.

Most of all, try not to panic

These are trying times, but it is important to stay calm — there really is no need to buy out half the grocery store. While many areas are issuing shutdowns of non-essential stores and businesses due to the coronavirus outbreak, grocery stores are remaining open (via Forbes ).
