Yes, out of date protein powder is safe to use. Since protein powder is such a dry substance there is very little risk of bacterial growth. This is applicable to both whey protein and casein protein. Protein powder comes with a best before date rather than a use by date.
How long does a protein bar take to digest?
We would suggest eating half of the bar an hour before a workout, or the whole thing about 2 hours before. The protein will get digested quickly.
