Sometimes a very minor touch-up frind on the corners of a couple rods bolts will do. Back in the olden days I knew a guy that cut down the bolt head seats on the inside of 5.7 rods to use a stock 400 bolt. No grinding required then. Most of the aftermarket capscrew rods will clear without grinding and are inexpensive.

What I did was to disasemble one of the lifters and put a piece of bar stock inside and reassembled the lifter. Basically, you make a soilid lifter out of a hydrolic. This will not damage the lifter. When you're done just take apart and reassemble. You can use this to measure valve clearance also.
