How to find out stall speed of TH350 converter?
The '79 has the original matching numbers TH350. Any ideas on how to find info on the "stock" converter? Stock stall was about 1600 - 1800 rpm. Stall speed is variable though based on torque input. If you want to know your actual stall speed just go put your car in gear, step on the brakes (hard), and push the throttle to the floor.
What is the stall speed of a stock engine?
The stall speed isn't static, it varies with how much power you put to it, and the weight/brakes holding it back. Take the stock 78 180 hp brute and you might get say, 1250 on the brakes. A BB might get 1700 out of the same converter and car. Both engines at the same vacuum.
What is the stall speed of a vacuum converter?
The point vacuum reaches 0 is the stall . The tach will tell you what RPM it occured . ^ That would give you your converter stall speed with your engine, at a specific vacuum. Perhaps interesting for tuning, but quite irrelevant to use as a characteristic of any converter, or to compare converters.
What is the correct Tach for stall speed?
As long as the brakes hold and the tires dont turn, whatever the tach reads (assuming an accurate tach) is your stall speed. Your flash stall speed will be a little higher.
What is the stall on a stock th350?

How do I know what stall converter I need?
For mild performance cars with something like a 350 HP engine, a 2,200 - 2,400 stall is about right. The basic rule of thumb is; if your engine "comes alive" at say, 3,500 RPM, then you want a stall converter with about 3,500 of stall to it.
What stall speed torque converter do I need?
In general, the desired stall speed should be 500-700 RPM below the engine RPM at peak torque. This ensures a margin for application for the torque converter to take off. You don't want to have to floor your gas pedal and wait a few seconds for your vehicle to move. Think of it as a balancing act.
What does a higher stall converter do?
A higher stall torque converter will let your car accelerate better because the car will be taking off at the rpm range where it is making the most power.
What does a 2500 stall converter do?
A 2,500 stall speed doesn't mean you need to rev the motor to 2,500 rpm for the vehicle to move." What it does mean in this case is 2,500 rpm is the limit at which the converter will hold back the engine speed if transmission output is prohibited.
What happens if your stall converter is too low?
If converter stall speed is too low, the car will be lazy leaving the line; if too high, there'll be excessive high-gear slippage—either case adds time to your e.t. Engine builders use car weight and dyno data to aid selection. The converter is also matched to the transmission's gear ratios.
Do you need a tune for a stall converter?
It will be fine. More stall than that you'll definately need a tune.
What does a low stall converter do?
With a responsive turbo (especially the newer VGT models), a low-stall converter will deliver more power to the rear wheels and create less heat without lockup.

I had my th350 rebiult to stock specs with exception to an additional shift kit. I've been told that it may not hold up to a 3500 rpm stall converter. What should I do to allow it to handle my stall converter?

I believe your rebuilder is trying to say he won't warranty your unit if used in high-performance applications. Beyond that- if you run a 3500 converter you're going to need a large external transmission cooler to keep what will be alot of extra heat generated under control.
