When was Cartoonstock created?

More than two decades of funny business. CartoonStock, the first searchable cartoon archive on the Web, was founded in 1997 to enable quality cartoonists to find a market for their vast archives of work. Over the first 20 years, CartoonStock grew to an online database of over 500,000 cartoons worldwide.

What is a great cartoon?

A truly great cartoon is a rare and incandescent mix of art, word, and wit. We know that if a cartoon connects, snaps, and sings to you, it will with your audience as well. We’re here to make it easy and fun to connect with the perfect cartoons for your needs.

Why are cartoons funny?

Cartoons are funny that way—no other art form can communicate an idea quicker or more effectively. Humor disarms, connects, and then communicates, in a fraction of a second. In a world where every eye is bombarded daily by thousands of messages, cartoons command attention and convey your message instantly.

What is the anatomy of cartoons?

The anatomy of any cartoon is elemental—lines, shading, and perhaps color or a caption. But it’s only in the most talented of hands that cartoons can achieve their near-unlimited potential as a uniquely communicative art form. The perfect cartoon can persuade, amuse, inform or just provide a moment of mirth.

What is the New Yorker cartoon bank?

Originally a repository for rejected New Yorker cartoons, its mission was to provide quality cartoons for licensing use in newsletters, textbooks, magazines, and other media. In 1997, Bob became Cartoon Editor of The New Yorker and the magazine acquired The Cartoon Bank.
