There are B-Stock and Blemished guitars. There is something not quite right with the guitar. I believe the B-Stock is a designation from the factory, and the Blem is designated by the store after a return for quality or something they found.

Before 1985' date=' Gibson sold B-stock guitars at a cheaper price. B-stock means it had a factory flaw, so, they couldn't charge full price for it.

I've got a B-stock. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the guitar' date=' it's mint! It was displayed at a guitar show and the case has some damage...so, because of that, it couldn't be sold as a "new" guitar and it was labeled as B-stock. The ones you're looking at on-line might have minor scuffs/scratches...nothing major [/quote']

Take new pics every now and then and post them' date=' eh?...kind of like my own picture thread

I had heard that Gibson cuts their b-stock bodies in half before disposing of them. Supposedly, it's a move to ward off the dumpster divers.

Yeah, I've heard they feed them to a band saw. What a job that must be...

You'll find that it can be different depending one which shop you're at. Some places won't take anything off for a scratch/dent whereas others will have the tiniest mark and take lots of money off of the price

Be aware that AFAIK, if you buy a Epiphone 2nd ( that is stamped on the back of the headstock) I don't believe that there is ANY warranty coverage.

I was told a story that back in the late 70's Gibson had the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The 1st was the guitar with no problems, a 2nd had a finish flaw, and a 3rd had a technical problem of some sort. The guy said that had got a second in for a customer who wanted the lower price, but they couldn't find the finish flaw.
