What is Astra investment?
Astra is an opportunity for investors to invest in a pioneering space company at a discount. One of the things that excites me is how much they've already been able to accomplish with such little funding. Because of that, I believe that they will be able to make this round of funding go a very long way, as it is a company that is used to running a bit on the lean side and has been forced to be very efficient with their spending.
Is Astra still commercial?
Astra still hasn't issued a commercial launch. It has successfully demonstrated its full capabilities with a test flight but still lacks commercial experience. With over 10 customers for over 50 missions lined up already, I don't think that this risk will materialize into anything significant. Similarly, Astra has not yet demonstrated its ability to handle short-notice launches with a successful flight but, again, has shown its ability to do so via its performance in the DARPA competition. Both of these operational risks exist because they technically have not been demonstrated yet, but the ability to deliver on these expectations has been validated. This creates a perceived risk that I find to be quite favorable, as it artificially deflates the value and creates a more attractive entry point. As such, demonstrating these abilities in a commercial setting will likely accelerate growth later on and boost returns for investors.
