What to use to disinfect sand before a show?
Antibiotic cream/salve, aspirin boluses and balling gun, blood stop powder, and bleach. It is a good idea to disinfect the sand before you place your animal on the ring. A simple bleach mixture of 1 part bleach to 4 parts water, in a spray bottle will do. Show equipment. Show stick, show halter/lead, tie out halter and lead ropes.

What to wear to a 4-H show?
Show clothes. There is no uniform for 4-H, but you will want to dress neatly and modestly. A button down shirt and dark pants are appropriate. A neck tie or 4-H bolero tie is a nice touch. Make sure your hair is neatly styled and pulled back away from your face. You may also want to bring some safety pins for your exhibitor tag.
Can you take photocopies at check in?
Photocopies will not be accepted at check-in. It is a great idea to put these papers in a three-ring binder inside sheet protectors. Your knowledge and good sportsmanship! Be familiar with your animal so that you are prepared to answer any questions the judge may ask. Look over your feed record and record book.
What do you need to make a pack?
You will need straw and shavings to make a pack, or you can make it from shavings only. Double ties and chains with a release ring in case your animal gets caught. Have one or two show boxes. It’s a good idea to keep show supplies in one and personal belongings in the other. A cooler for water and show sprays.

A bucket marked just for water or large water tubs. A watering system can also be made from hoses and automatic waterers. o Note: Do not take a stock tank to the show, as this is how disease and illness can spread rapidly. Always water cattle in their stall.
How far back should you stand when making signs?
When you are making the signs, stand back 10 to 12 feet and see if you can read it easily – that’s how far away people are going to be when they read it. Have a good turbo fan. This may be one of the most important investments you can make to keep your animals healthy at the fair and at home.

Depending on where you live and where you are traveling, you’ll need to provide various types of paperwork to horse show management. It’s a smart idea to call the show office in advance to find out what paperwork you need.
First Aid
Talk to your veterinarian who can either provide you with one or give you a comprehensive list of what to put in it.
Braiding
Many horse shows have professional braiders onsite to help if you do not know how to braid. But, learning to braid well yourself will be a lot less expensive.
