How do I set up or edit Price alerts for a stock?

  • Step 1: Go to the main symbol page and click on the bell icon as shown below.
  • Step 2. Select the Alert type as Price.
  • Step 3. Click on Save and your alert will be saved. Note: The bell icon will turn green if you have an alert set for a stock.

There are only four fields to fill out to create a price alert: 1 First, choose your notification method - either email, SMS text message, or a banner notification on the website. 2 Second, choose the symbol you'd like to be alerted about. 3 Third, choose whether you're looking for the symbol to cross above or below the specified price. If we're looking for a pullback on the symbol from our watchlist, we would likely choose "Below" here. 4 Fourth, specify the price you want the symbol to cross above or below. You can type in a price by hand, or use the "%" dropdown menu to the right and choose an option like "2% down". A price 2% lower than the current price will be automatically calculated and filled in for you.

Create the Price Alert

To create a price alert you will start in the "Alert Criteria" box. By default the box will show [symbol = '$INDU'] and [close x 13000] but this can be changed. In the case of this tutorial we will use ticker symbol MSFT to see when MSFT close is greater than $28.

Check Syntax

Once your alert is created click "check syntax" to make sure it is entered correctly. If the syntax is correct you are ready to Add/Modify the alert.

Manage Saved Alert

To manage your alert you can use the Technical Alert Summary page. From the Extra or PRO Control Center you will click "Technical Alert Summary" to access the page. Here you can see the list of alerts you have created and can see what state the alert is in. If you want to pause your alert click the "pause" icon.
