Using a hammer and a putty knife or similar tool, tap firmly at the joint of the stock and butt pad. Most of the whole thing should off. There will likely be glue and some bits of plastic from the butt pad left on the stock.

How do you remove the screwdriver pad from the stock?
Just rub it on the ROUND shaft of your screwdriver. Leave the pad on and tape it off. Leave the pad on and tape it off. ^^^ This...If you are going/needing to do any sanding on the stock you want the pad in place.
How do you remove the finish from a rubber pad?
You can then take 0000 steel wool or such and carefully remove finish from pad if you don't like the looks. You can use painters masking tape on the new wood finish to protect it while carefully removing dried finish on pad. YMMV. Also if you remove pad and remove and replace screwdriver bit many times you are going to chew up the rubber.
How do you remove the blade pad from the blade?
They should have a razor X or slice , use a lot of lube on shank , remove one a few turns then go to the other , go back and forth between screws till the pad lifts . It may be stuck around the finished edge .
How do you finish your stock?
The one with the metal butt pad. I removed it and used a sanding block to remove the finish on that end. 100 grit-150 grit- 220 grit. Those stocks were finished with some type of varnish back in the late 60s. I finish with boiled linseed oil. About 4 coats and 000 fine steel wool between coats. Finish with a coat of Johnsons Wax.

HS Precision Stock - Butt pad removal
Hi Guys /Gals .. Finally figured that if i want to shoot prone with my back condition I'm going to need to make the comb of the stock adjustable. I know there are velcro , and ready made items to do this .. but i figure it ain't rocket science and i'm also the kinda guy that gets a lot of satisfaction from doing it myself.
Re: HS Precision Stock - Butt pad removal
There should be little slits cut in the pad for screwdriver access. You'll have to pull the pad apart at the edges to get the slits to show themselves.
Re: HS Precision Stock - Butt pad removal
I had the pad come off on my Remington Sendero ( Came from the factory with and H-S Precision stock ) and it is definately glued on. Called the company....they said use two part epoxy...which is what I did. Wayne
Re: HS Precision Stock - Butt pad removal
Also forgot...I installed a Karsten adjustable cheekpiece to my BVSS and my Remington 5R Milspec ( also a H-S Precision stock ). Carefully drill to holes and install...very easy and does a nice job.
Re: HS Precision Stock - Butt pad removal
Thanks to all .. Just glued on then ? Of course now ive started trying to refigure out how to make it adjust up and down too .. something like this idea should be easy to do with two alloy plates .. one glued to the stock with a diagonal slot and the other mounted to it with an adjustable screw or hex nut . Think thats possible ?
Re: HS Precision Stock - Butt pad removal
Guess it's worth a try. You'll notice that much of the glue is around the edge of the stock ( once you get the recoil pad off). The middle is substantially hollow. Hopeflly there would be enough surface area for the epoxy to grip the metal. I think the freezer method would be the way to go...forgot to mention that.
Re: HS Precision Stock - Butt pad removal
Put stock in freezer for a few hours then put recoil pad in vice with the stock sticking up and gently start prying back and forth. That's how we got my buddy's off. Then you can epoxy some wood pieces in the hollow part to screw the new pad to. Not a difficult job.
MZ5 .270 WIN
I'm new here (said 'hi' in the new members sub-forum), and I'm also new to the BLR. I've wanted one for many years, and recently was finally able to get one. It's a Lightning pistol grip model in 243 Win. I'm a pretty mechanically-inclined person; I like machines and working with them.

Hey MZ5, I dont own a BLR but for my Maxus, it was the same for me. The first time taking off the buttstock screws, it is very tight to get off. One thing i would suggest is to make sure that the screwdriver you are using is the right size and there is not any wiggle room when you try to screw it out.
Darreld Walton Copper BB
MZ25, I've owned a few of the older Belgian BLR's, and what I use is a bit holder in a very long 3/8" extension and a ratchet handle.

thanks for the info. For what seems like a simple task, there are so many things to screw up. i always hate taking off the buttstock...
