Does bloatware make Android phone faster?

You don’t have to deal with this bloatware in stock Android. As the OS grows, it offers more flexibility by letting users uninstall the apps they don’t need. Bloatware also drains battery life and sucks the performance of a phone. Hence, it is important to get rid of it and make your phone faster.

Change Your Launcher

This is the first thing that I do on any phone, because it easily makes the biggest different right out of the gate. With Android, basically everything is managed through the launcher—the app that handles your home screens—so it’s one of the most dramatic changes you can make to your phone’s look and feel.

Switch to Google Keyboard

Touch keyboards on Android have come a long way over the last few years, and Google’s own offering is now one of the best out there. Like most other things Android, it’s clean and minimal, not full of “fluff” features that no one ever uses, but rather has a focus on accuracy and meaningful settings.

Use Google Camera

There’s a good chance that the stock camera app that comes with your phone is robust and full-featured, which is nice, but sometimes you just don’t need all that. If you want something simple and easy to use, Google Camera is the app for you.

Drop the Stock SMS App and Switch to Messenger

There is no shortage of messaging apps in Google Play, and even Google now has a bunch to choose from. But I think Google really got it right with Messenger, the new (ish) stock SMS app for Nexus devices. It uses Google’s Material Design user interface for a clean, sharp look, but it’s not just a pretty face—it works exceptionally well, too.

Google-ify your launcher

The most basic, and probably the easiest, step you can take is to install the Google Now Launcher. This is the same launcher that comes as default on Nexus phones. It puts Google Now one swipe away, places a search bar at the top of each screen, and organizes all your apps in alphabetical order inside of the app drawer.

Sideload the Google dialer and contacts app

Google makes a contacts and phone app, and they’re supposed to only be for Nexus devices. But with a little trickery, you can get them on your non-Nexus phone.

Grab a theme

Some phones, like the Samsung Galaxy line and many HTC phones, offer a theme store where you can change up the icons, settings page, and overall design by piggybacking on the hard work of a developer. If you’re after a Nexus look, this can be a great way to go since several developers have built themes that look similar to stock Android.

A few lockscreen tweaks

Even if you’ve made the aforementioned tweaks, don’t ignore the lockscreen. On the Galaxy S7 and S6 line, for example, you can change up which apps are available as a quick launch option when you unlock. So if you’ve made the Google Phone app your dialer, then you can add that to the lock screen to replace Samsung’s option.

Know your limits

Finally, it’s worth knowing there’s only so much you can do. You can’t force your carrier or phone manufacturer to upgrade your phone. So when Android Nougat launches a little later this year, you may just have to be patient or decide now is finally the time to buy a Nexus device.

Launchers

There are a lot of cool launchers out there. Action Launcher Pro combined with the Stark icon pack is one of my favorites, however, there are a lot of offerings to get that stock Android feel.

Lock screens

Custom lock screens on Android are a fickle thing, as they’re often filled with bugs and are unreliable. However, there are a couple that’ll get the job done, though not many.

Keyboards and Wallpapers

Nexy, you need a new keyboard and wallpaper to finalize the makeshift vanilla Android experience we’ve created. A Jelly Bean wallpaper package can be easily found in the Play Store. Anyone will do, but I used this one. A Ice Cream Sandwich wallpaper package can be found in the Play Store easily as well. Lastly, we need a new keyboard.

Final thoughts

It should only take you a few minutes to complete these steps. After you do though, you’ll have an awesome makeshift vanilla Android experience on any device of your choosing. If you’d like to break away from stock Android a tad bit, I like to download the Stark icon pack to freshen things up a little bit.

Replace the home screen with Nova Launcher

Nova Launcher lets you customize things you didn’t even thought you needed to customize. Google Play Store

Remap the Bixby button to Google Assistant (or something else)

Ah, Bixby—the voice assistant nobody wants, but Samsung shoves in front of your face as often as they can. While I’m no fan of it, I actually like the Bixby button found on the side of Galaxy phones because nowadays it’s extremely customizable—just head to Settings, Advanced Features, and then Bixby Key.

Tweak the lock screen and navigation bar

Finally, I changed a few other minor settings for a more stock-like experience. First and foremost, lock screen notifications. Samsung hides your notifications behind an extra tap, which drives me absolutely bonkers, but you can turn this off by heading to Settings, Lock Screen, and then to Notifications, and changing the View Style to Details.

Customize the Quick Settings panel

When you drag your finger down from the top of the screen, you’ll see your notifications along with a few “quick settings” along the top. Drag down again, and you’ll get the full Quick Settings panel, which allows you to customize your screen’s brightness, toggle certain settings on and off, and more.

How to get Pixel icon pack?

You can download the Pixel icon pack from the Play Store and apply it to the launcher. To apply, after downloading, go to the launcher home settings, click on theme, Icon packs and drag Pixel Icon Pack to top of the System Icons. Come back to theme settings and then click on Icon Shape and select circle.

What is the best way to change the home screen?

Launchers are the best way to change the Home Screen. As I am looking to make it like a Stock Android, here are few best launchers I found:- Pixel Launcher , Lawnchair Launcher, Rootless Launcher. Pixel Launcher is undoubtedly the best launcher you can choose if you are willing to go for a stock Android and it is made by Google itself.
