To make this you will need; - A large refrigerator box. - Misc. tools (box cutter, tape measure, straight edge, pencil, jigsaw) - Three cans of gray spray paint - A little imagination
Step 2: The Build
Begin by cutting and laying flat the box. My dimensions were based on the size of my box so you may have to make adjustments. Using a straight edge, mark and cut out the top angles and tabs. Each panel is 2 feet wide because my box was 12 feet total. The tabs are 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. The receiving side is 2 inches wide.
Step 3: Finishing Touches
Spray paint the outside any color you want. I primed the areas with writing but it isn't really necessary (it's just a cardboard toy remember) Be careful not to apply too much paint or the cardboard might warp. Using a sharpie I made a few rivets and other lines on the ship.
Step 1: Choose a Colour Scheme (optional Step)
While this model looks great made from plain cardstock, building it in multiple colours really makes it pop! You can watch the video for some ideas.
Step 2: Print the Template
Once you have decided what cardstock you are using, load it into your printer and get ready to print out your template. Select the Print function on your PDF reader software, then carefully check the options.
Step 3: Cut Out the Components
This is a simple process but might take a little while. Use your scissors to closely cut around the solid lines only on the template. The different types of dotted and dashed lines are for folding and I'll explain them in the next step.
Step 4: Scoring and Folding the Components
Scoring is a technique to make a depression in the cardstock to make it easier to fold. This is a time-consuming but very important phase of assembling the Blast Off Rocket. Doing this ensures your folds come out crisp and sharp, so it is really worth the time to do this.
Step 5: Assembling Your Rocket
To build the model, match up each tab number and stick the tab to the underside of the edge with the matching number. Work around the tabs on each part and watch the model grow!
Step 6: Displaying Your Rocket Model
Well done! You now have a fun papercraft model rocketship to show off! Your next step is to find somewhere to display it but that one is up to you!
