don't know how old this thread is but STI,wrx, and impreza share the same crank, the ej253 rods are also forged its the pistons with out a good tune that get damaged. you can go to 9 psi supercharged boost at least safely on stock block with a very good tune. you can also just get forged 10:1 pistons like the stocks and not have to run high boost, something like 14psi like wrx stock boost is like 18 psi of boost but since torque will still be there you don't have to go up in boost when you have stock compression with forged pistons. 2.5i fuel system with injectors and pump is good for 15 psi of fuel demand and flow..regulator is the same as wrx from what I hear.
How much HP can the EJ25 make?
The EJ25 can make more HP than the drivetrain can handle on a regular daily driven basis. Unless you are building a purpose built vehicle ( rally racer, sand rail, etc.) with BIG $$$$ in the drivetrain there is little point in exceeding 280-300 HP which it appears can be made easily and reliably with the EJ25.
Are there any issues with the EJ255 and EJ257?
It should also be noted that the EJ255 and EJ257 have a number of inherent weaknesses, so whilst we have been able to minimise the chance of issues by using quality products, tuning with engine conservation in mind and executing a plan to prolong engine life, there is risk involved.
What is EJ25 duty cycle at WOT?
That's more than likely a reference to injector duty cycle or something like that. And even that sounds strangly low since most of the turbo folks switch to 550 cc injectors and still run like 80 or greater percent duty cycle at WOT. The EJ25 can make more HP than the drivetrain can handle on a regular daily driven basis.
Why PBMs stage 6 for the EJ25 long block?
We knew that the EJ25 long block and stock turbo is capable of a lot, however there are a few weaknesses with the engine and plenty of restrictions with the external components that would need to be replaced. To allow the engine to flow well enough to make some power, we decided to go for a PBMS Stage 6 package, which we’ll delve into in a moment.
How much power can a stock Subaru block handle?
How Much Power Can A Stock Subaru Block Handle? In our PPIHC car, they hold up to 400 Whp (again, as shown), but if you want to push up to or beyond that power level, you may want to consider aftermarket H-Beam rods.
How much horsepower can a stock STI block handle?
400 whpThey will hold up to 400 whp (again as shown in our PPIHC car), but if you want to push up to or beyond that power level, a set of aftermarket H-Beam rods would be recommended.
How much horsepower does an EJ25 make?
The EJ20/EJ25 engines can handle 300 horsepower with stock internals and no further modifications other than a proper fuel management system.
Is a stock EJ25 reliable?
With all of its imperfections studied and properly sorted out however, the EJ25 can prove to be a reliable engine to enjoy performance driving with. At the end of the day, building a car really is just all a matter of doing your research and finding the right people to build your motor for you.
How much HP can a stock EJ25 block handle?
300 whp: The EJ20/EJ25 engines can handle 300 whp maximum with stock internals with no further modifications other than a proper fuel management tune.
How much HP is a Stage 3 STI?
STI 08-18 HPF STAGE 3 | 276kW.
Is the EJ motor reliable?
Subaru EJ257 Reliability We're inclined to say the EJ257 offers below average reliability. It's not so much that the 2.5L Subaru boxer engine is plagued by endless problems. However, there are a few pretty severe and costly issues that occur on the EJ257 more frequently than the average engine.
How much power can a stock STI make?
Your engine and can blow with as little as 300 whp with a bad tune. There are plenty of STIs out there making well over 400whp also, but the general concensus in this forum about how much WHP the STI block can handle is 400whp.
What is the difference between EJ255 and EJ257?
The only difference between them was the turbo and intercooler set-up, and the tuning of the ECU. Starting with the 2006 – 2007 WRX and Forester XT, this was the first point where the EJ255 actually started to receive different parts from the STI.
Why is the EJ25 unreliable?
The biggest downfall to the EJ25 is the cast pistons and small ringlands. Others occasionally have spun bearings but that is much less frequent.
What car has a EJ25 engine?
The new WRX STI S209 has the most powerful iteration of Subaru's venerable 2.5-liter boxer yet. It's not the last one. When Subaru announced it was bringing an S-series WRX STI to the US for the first time, we wondered what engine would power it.
How long does STI clutch last?
50,000 milesThey're designed to last at least 50,000 miles, but it can vary based on how well you take care of your car and what your driving style is. If you do a lot of city driving, you may find that your clutch wears out faster due to the frequent shifting between lower gears.
What is E85 conversion?
An E85 fuel conversion requires a fuel system upgrade and flex-fuel conversion kit to give the vehicle the ability to the run on both regular pump and high-power-producing E85.
What is a Cobb cold air intake?
Cold Air Intake. To unlock flow into the engine, we started with a Cobb cold air intake. The design ensures that the engine only sucks cold air from outside the engine bay and the larger filter means less restriction for air entering the intake pipe. You can really hear this intake system at work.
What engine does David's 2014 Subaru WRX use?
David and his 2014 Subaru WRX gave us the opportunity to push the limit on the stock block engine and factory turbo by making use of modern technology, power-adding parts and the wonderous E85 fuel.
What is the Perrin intake pipe?
The turbo intake pipe has been upgraded with a Perrin intake pipe. This is the pipe that runs between the Cobb CAI and the turbo. This upgraded pipe is larger in diameter and reduces the restriction of air entering the turbocharger.
Does the EJ25 have a long block?
We knew that the EJ25 long block and stock turbo is capable of a lot, however there are a few weaknesses with the engine and plenty of restrictions with the external components that would need to be replaced. To allow the engine to flow well enough to make some power, we decided to go for a PBMS Stage 6 package, which we’ll delve into in a moment. To aid power and help the engine perform reliably, we also worked with David to convert this WRX to run E85 by implementing a flex-fuel setup.
Is 3,000 miles on an engine bad?
And actually, 3,000 track/race miles on an engine is not too bad at all. But if your car is a daily driver and you want to get closer to 100k miles our of an engine, than we would not recommend trying to push to that point. Now, if you want to push past this first limit, forged pistons are going to be the first part that needs to be replaced.
Can you run a stock EJ255?
Yes you can, but reliability will go down somewhat quickly. For example, the first engine in our Pikes Peak WRX Race car ran a stock EJ255 at about 400 whp for a number of events that added up to around 3,000 track miles. And actually, 3,000 track/race miles on an engine is not too bad at all.
How much horsepower is 1.45cfm?
In a very rough sense, 1.45cfm = 1hp. To make 500hp, you need an engine that can flow 725cfm. This means you need an intake that supports 725cfm, a turbo that supports 725cfm, heads, cams, exhaust, etc. all need to support 725cfm. Now the car in its stock design was geared to flow 435cfm (300hp).
Can a 6 speed handle power?
The 6 speed can handle some decent power. From a pure power standpoint, yes, the heads will likely need some sort of work in terms of internals. But that is why this thread is stupid, there's no parameters to work within. win-less - 'win - les : 1) being without or lacking win, 2) the absence of win.
Is a stock engine good for air?
The stock engine is only good for flowing a certain amount of air. If you want a simple example of this, you look at the boost curve and then look at the torque curve on any given dyno chart. Flow restriction is when you have constant boost, but you see that torque curve die off.
