To supply the necessary amount of nitrous to the 5.3L, we employed not one, but a pair of Pro Plates from Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS). Each plate offered two stages, with each stage capable of flowing 250hp worth of nitrous, meaning the plate could supply a total of 500 hp.Apr 11, 2018

How much HP can a Nos system produce?

Since we had a pair of plates, our NOS system was capable of supplying 1,000 hp worth of nitrous. Two nitrous spray bars and two fuel spray bars allowed each plate to supply a total of 500 hp. Run on the dyno, each staged was tested individually and worked perfectly.

What's the Best LS intake for my project?

We've established that the stock truck intake on the 5.3 LS is a good one and should do the job until nearly the 500 horsepower mark, but that doesn't mean it's going to fit your project. Taller than what one would find on a passenger car LS setup, you could run into hood clearance issues that will require swapping in something different.

What is the camshaft on a 5.3 LS?

Given that almost every 5.3 LS was installed under the hood of a truck, it's perhaps no surprise that their factory camshaft (191 degrees at 0.050-inch lift in the LM7) is designed to balance power and fuel economy and favor low-rpm torque. Gen IV engines moved to somewhat more aggressive cam profiles (196 degrees in the LY5, for example), but still oriented towards task-focused towing and daily driving above all else.

What is a 5.3 liter engine?

How strong are LS2s and 3?

Read up a little about them. You will be surprised to see what they consist of. The ls2s and 3 are just as strong as a 5.3 if not stronger. I think the smaller motors might have a mechanical advantage for obvious reasons but in general they are about the same as far as what they can take. I think some of the reason they stay together and put up with allot because of the heads. The combustion chambers are very efficient and help fight detonation witch in turn is allot easier on the bottom end. There has been a ton of cars that have run big numbers with stock motors other then a cam, springs studs and gaskets. I know a guy that has run low8s at almost 170MPH for about two years on a stock short block, stock home ported truck heads and a stock truck intake.
