how much nitrous can a stock 6.0 handle

by Sibyl Hamill Published 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago

NOS suggests 50 for a 4 cyl, 75 for a 6 cyl and 100-125 for a 8 cyl. As far as I know the B18 is capable of a 75 without blinking. Since the manufactuers of the nitrous kits shy on the safe side, lets get edgy.

What is the best nitrous oxide booster for your car?

For simplicity, easy installation, and low initial cost, the NX Proton and Proton Plus are the way to go for those new to nitrous oxide, or just looking for a reasonable boost in power to an otherwise stock engine.

Why choose NX’s four-bolt nitrous oxide plates?

The NX 90 and 102mm four-bolt plates have built-in two stage capability, and when combined with a third direct port stage, make for a very potent way to deliver a lot of nitrous oxide in precisely measured doses. One indisputable advantage to NX’s four-bolt plate systems is how dead-simple they make adding a second stage.

Can you add nitrous to an LS engine?

You’d be hard-pressed to find a company with more options for adding nitrous to an LS engine than Nitrous Express, or simply NX as it’s known to their fans.

What is the difference between the Piranha and Shark nitrous nozzle?

The Piranha nozzle (left) offers a very small profile exposed to the airstream inside the intake tract, while the Shark has a higher ultimate flow capability. 10-pound capacity nitrous bottle with a high flow billet aluminum Lightning 45 bottle valve

How much nitrous can a stock block handle?

If you have a stock internal, you can run 150 shots. Pull 3 degrees of timing when you run a 125 shot or higher.

How much HP does a 100 shot of nitrous add?

100 flywheel horsepowerMaxwell: A “shot” is typically how much horsepower the nitrous system is adding to the engine. For instance, a “hundred shot” is adding 100 flywheel horsepower on top of what the engine makes normally. The horsepower level of the nitrous kit can is easily changed by swapping out metering jets.

Is nitrous hard on an engine?

Will nitrous injection damage my engine? The use of a correctly designed, high quality nitrous oxide system, that is fitted and used correctly within prescribed safe limits, will put your engine at little to no risk of damage.

Is wet or dry nitrous better?

Dry nitrous kits are a great first step and require less work for installation and a small bump in power output. A wet nitrous kit will deliver a fuel/nitrous oxide mixture into your intake tract.

Is 50 shot less power to a 6 cylinder than a 4 cylinder?

If you put alot of boost on high compression everyone knows what happens. As far as my theory about the number of cylinders now if you have high compression on a 6 + culinder engine , you still have to fill more cylinders on a 6 or a 8 rather than a 4. So a 50 shot would be less power to a 6 cylinder than a 4 cylinder.

Does the NFN sticky state what horsepower you can use?

The NFN sticky only states reccommended modifications for specific horsepower levels. They don't actually state what each motor type is capable of using and where thier limit is. A d16A1 won't handle as much spray as a B18c3.

How much horsepower can you add to a LS car?

On an LS car, you can normally only add about 100 horsepower before you start dropping fuel pressure, whether that’s through nitrous, polished heads, or whatever.”. Besides the fuel supply, once you get past that magic 100-horse mark, ignition timing needs to be addressed as well.

Do throttle body plates work like throttle body spacers?

But on the up-side, “The plates kind of act like a throttle body spacer as well, because they sit between the throttle blades and the intake manifold, and that might give you a slight increase in bottom end power because of the effective increase in plenum volume.”.

Is Nitrous a supercharger?

Nitrous is pretty easy to install and use. Everything has its horsepower limit, but nitrous isn’t pumping heat into the intake like a turbo or supercharger – it’s usually taking heat out of the intake. – Ryan Lewis, NX.

I ran 13lbs on my stock LQ9 for awhile. I have seen guys run higher boost levels on stock 6.0. its that tune that is key.

Agreed^ I think it was low to mid 20's but 20's regardless is high for any stock engine hence why these LQ9 iron blocks are better than any other 6.0L...

Aldofashow

Yea at 15psi and 93 octane I think you'll be just fine... with meth you would be able to run a few more degrees of timing before knock but a more conservative 93 octane tune will do fine...

Dammit i was planning on going 93 but looks like im gonna have to go 85

Krambo

My rule of thumb when dealing with high boost tuning on stock internals is to tune with 93 octane at a mild boost number (say 10psi) and then add C-16 and more boost. C-16 is a heavy fuel that resists detonation and does not change your STOICH value in the tune.
