Max "reliable" HP I would go is 400rwhp. Anything from stock is a risk of breaking somthing. Ive seen rods bend before headgaskets blow. Generally, rods are good to 500-550, IMO, pretty much anything over 500 is taking a risk of bending.

How much boost can a Duramax take?
32-34psi would be the max i would shoot for otherwise you run the risk of nuking it. The PPE boost module should allow you to get a few more pounds. There is also another boost increaser made by kennedy diesel but it is preset to around 34psi IIRC.
How much boost is alot?
If you have a stock engine, with a compressor that is factory set to produce no more than twenty pounds of boost, you shouldn't modify the system to make it produce much more than 25 pounds of boost. And increase of 5 pounds over stock is probably the limit you should go by.
