They are pretty silent and last a while. Don't buy one unless you really think you need one. The loudest thing in my computer is the case fans not the cooler. I'd replace those before the stock cooler (at least for noise).

In my opinion, the Intel stock cooler gets monstrously loud once it gets gunked up with dust, which it does easily. In my experience, it takes about 3-4 months before dust buildup begins to cause the fan's noise (as well as temps) to rise noticeably.

Hey just a warning for anyone who is reading this more recently, this thread is a good 5 years old now and is not something you should listen to, cpu's need to dissipate more and more heat nowadays and the intel stock cooler is something that is horrible for that, i reccomend just spending 30 bucks more and buying a cooler master cpu fan
