So there is a product that I'd like to order for Christmas, I'm in Europe so the shipping is about a week, 2 at most but the product is Temporarily out of stock .

Don't bother putting the order in. You never know when they will restock it because that's all they do when they run out, "Temporary".

It means you can place an order, and whenever they do finally get stock again, they will charge you at that point and ship it. It could be months later though. I did it once and had good luck with it (only took about a month and saved like 25% on the thing because their price was better than any other options) but your mileage may vary

I have waited 2 months for product to get back on stock. My understanding is that they don't order new batch from manufacturer/importer unless there's something closer to 10-25 orders. Best things to do are asking about item from seller or finding alternative sellers.

Is this code for "We'll offer some when we get them. It might take 6 months, but it will happen", or does it really mean "It ain't gonna happen. Sold out, and none on the horizon. Keep watchin' though, you might buy something else while you're here"?

Might be worth it to gamble on a used set. There are some listed as "Like New." If it's truly gone out of print, then these used prices won't stay low for very long.

Every once in a long while things actually show up even years after they go into this mode. I wouldn't count on it if it's something you really want, though.

Looks like that Miles set is OOP. I had no idea. I think for OOP items it pretty much means "this might turn up again one day if we find some in the warehouse or they reissue it, but don't hold your breath."

Order More Inventory

Call your supplier ASAP to place a new order to replenish your stock on Amazon. The scope of your order depends on a couple of variables: how much inventory you have left and when you think it’ll run out. The latter factor is especially important to estimate because it will determine whether or not you need to place a rush order.

Slow Your Own Sales

Now that your new inventory order is in the works, you want to prevent your current inventory from flying off the shelves. That means slowing your own sales.

Re-evaluate Your Inventory Management Strategy

Whether or not you currently have an inventory management strategy#N#(opens in new tab)#N#, you need a new inventory game plan so you don’t approach a stockout again. Start by figuring out the following information:

Invest in Buffer Stock

Buffer stock is the “rainy day fund” of inventory — i.e. a separate supply of your product (s) that you only use when you absolutely need it. This inventory is available for you in case you see a sudden spike in sales, are turning inventory faster than you can replenish it, and are approaching a stockout.

Increase Cash Flow

Because of Amazon’s two week payment delay, you might not have access to the cash you need to buy more inventory or pay any rush fees on a new order.
