The stock exhaust manifold (log style or dog-leg) are restrictive compared to a set of shorty headers. I recommend the ceramic coated headers if you go with shorty headers. They cost a little more but they last longer and don't radiate heat like non-coated headers. The stock 5.7L gaskets will not work with the shorty headers.

Can you tune a stock 5.7 Hemi?

Adding a tuner to your 5.7 HEMI is debatably the single best power upgrade. It's not just about the benefits of tuning the 345 Mopar engine. A tune is also the foundation to making more power from additional mods.

Are shorty headers better than stock manifolds?

Shorty headers do have a place in the line-up. In our second test with the mandrel-bent pipes they posted 1 hp better than the RARE manifolds and 3 better than the Performance Years pieces. They are much lighter than the manifolds and will provide some sparkle under the hood with HTC coating.

Do long tube headers add horsepower?

For long tube headers, the exhaust pipes are much longer and merge farther out. Because of this, each design impacts back pressure in the exhaust system in a different way. Longer port pipes result in lower exhaust back pressure. This means improved oxygen intake and a boost in horsepower.

Which headers are better for torque?

Shorty headers deliver better low-to-mid-range torque. Medium and long-tube headers allow an engine to make more horsepower at high rpm. The 4-into-1 is the traditional long-tube header most of us are familiar with—four primary tubes carefully bent and channeled into one collector.

Are headers worth it?

The answer is yes, headers will boost performance – IF your vehicle is “prepared” for them.

What to consider when buying headers?

How much hp do headers add to a 5.7 Hemi?

Run with the larger 1 3/4" Hooker BlackHeart headers (p/n 70102303-RHKR), the “cam'd” 5.7L Hemi produced 442 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 437 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. That equals a nice 35 horsepower gain from the larger, long-tube headers over the stock manifolds.

How much hp do headers give you?

If you're wondering how much horsepower do headers add to a 350, it's about an extra 16 hp for long tube headers. Shorty headers won't give as much, but you can count on a similar increase of about 6 hp, generally speaking.

What headers are better short or long?

Shorty headers aren't as loud as long tube headers, although they'll definitely have better sound than your stock manifold. You can choose unequal length headers for better sound, but equal length is the way to go for consistent gains in performance.

What are the benefits of headers?

The goal of headers is to make it easier for the engine to push exhaust gases out of the cylinders. When you look at the four-stroke cycle in How Car Engines Work, you can see that the engine produces all of its power during the power stroke.

Do headers require tuning?

Long tube headers constitute as a major change for the exhaust aspiration of your vehicle's engine. To compensate for the added air flow, and the relocation of the oxygen sensors, a new or updated tune is required.

Do headers change the exhaust sound?

As you just discovered, installing headers won't make your car sound louder. It will slightly change the tone of your exhaust and improve your performance a little, but your car won't turn up the volume of its exhaust.
