What is the Aptera?

How many key structure parts does an Aptera have?

Aptera is the first electric/ solar vehicle that requires no charging for most daily use. Thanks to the power of the sun, the dream of driving for more miles with less carbon, materials, and energy from the grid is now a reality.

Inwheels Engines

Typical electric vehicles have 300 key structure parts; the Aptera has only 4. Fewer parts makes for an easier build and ultimately a more accessible price. Using 3D printed tooling results in less labor and manufacturing space, and gives Aptera the ability to rapidly and inexpensively scale based on demand.

Auto Cooling

The rebuild Aptera moves the electric drive to the hubs, freeing up space on board and allowing torque to be vectored. Small 50 kW (67 hp) Elaphe wheel motors must not overload the suspension with unsprung masses.

Simplified and Distributed Manufacturing

To bypass the drag of a traditional grille, and fan cooling system, Aptera claims to have developed a method to build microfluidic channels into the composite resin skin that makes up the bottom and sides of the car to radiant heat like the skin of an animal.

Maintenance

Aptera has selected Munro and Associates of Sandy Munro to apply its lean design methodology, which will cause Aptera to outsource the majority of the vehicle. The final assembly involves assembling six main assemblies into the composite body: front and rear suspension modules (including motors), instrument panel, battery, and interior.

Production to begin in 2022

With minimal maintenance required for any electric vehicle, Anthony said his company adheres to the right to repair movement. This involves manufacturers disclosing all repair and maintenance procedures online to enable owners to repair and repair their vehicles.

Escape the gas pump and the charging station

Anthony freely admits that global supply chain issues related to COVID have delayed production, but said the company is testing its “beta” prototypes and appears to be on track to finalize the production plan of Aptera Electric Car this year and enter production in 2022, working to fill an order book of 12,000 pre-orders.

Aerodynamics inspired by nature

Aptera’s Never Charge technology can give you up to about 40 miles per day of free driving powered by the sun. We built the most efficient vehicle, then equipped it with 700 Watts of solar power.

All weather. Any time

Aptera’s undercarriage swoops like a dolphin’s belly. This reduces drag, or the force of air flowing against the motion of the vehicle. Aptera is curved at the nose, wide along the sides and tapered toward the trunk — like a small, speedy aircraft.

In-Wheel Motors

Capable down to -20 and up to 125 degrees Fahrenheit, Aptera has been developed to handle well in the harshest conditions. With all-wheel-drive and vectorized torque control, snow, ice, sand, and gravel are no problem.

Skin Cooling

The reconstituted Aptera moves the electric drive out to the hubs, to free up onboard space and to allow for torque vectoring. The small 50-kW (67-hp) Elaphe wheel motors shouldn't overburden the suspension with un-sprung mass.

Four Times the Typical EV Efficiency

To dodge the drag of a traditional grille, radiator, and fan cooling system, Aptera claims to have devised a method of incorporating microfluidic channels in the composite resin skin forming the underbelly and sides of the car, and that it is capable of radiating heat much the way an animal's skin might.

Simplified and Distributed Manufacturing

The ultralight bodywork, uber-slick aero, and tires with very low rolling resistance help make the Aptera solar-powered electric car four times more efficient than typical electric sedans, earning about 10 miles per kWh.

Right to Repair

Aptera has retained Sandy Munro's Munro and Associates to apply its Lean Design methodology, which will have Aptera outsourcing the production of much of the vehicle.

Production in 2022?

With minimal maintenance required of any electric vehicle, Anthony said his company embraces the Right to Repair movement. This involves manufacturers disclosing all repair and service procedures online to empower owners to service and repair their own vehicles.

How many miles does a 25 kWh battery pack give?

Anthony freely admits that global supply chain woes connected with COVID have delayed production, but he said the company is testing its "beta" prototypes and appears to be on track toward finalizing the production design this year and going to production in 2022, working to fill a backlog of 12,000 pre-orders.

Does the Aptera have solar?

For $25,900, you get the front-wheel-drive EV with 100 kW (134 hp) and the lowest range: the 25 kWh battery pack would provide about 250 miles of range.

When did Aptera stop operating?

As we already told you, all Aptera cars will feature the Never Charge solar technology that aims to add up to 45 miles of range on sunny days. Depending on where you live, that may be enough for you never to have to plug your Aptera into the grid.

Is the Aptera safe to drive?

The time it took to receive the loan was far too long for the company to survive, and the company ceased operations and was liquidated in 2011. Now, with renewed vigor and access to better technologies, Aptera is back to establish an automotive brand that delivers the “future”.
