A slight rant here? Anyone else tired of seeing "Temporarily out of stock. Order now and we'll deliver when available." on their favorite vinyl albums that have supposedly been released on that day? It seems like it's becoming the norm, to me. Every album I eagerly look forward to lately has received this notification from Amazon on release day.

I do know that a lot of times, stores don't know how many they're going to get, or when. The "commit to us, we'll get it to you if we get it" might make good business sense, but if you place that order in good faith, you may well end up waiting while all the copies sell through someone else.

If you are in a hurry, Amazon is not the best place to order. I think they are pretty conservative with a lot of new releases. If they order X copies of a new release and get X + 50 preorders, it's going to be out of stock on release date.

I've found Amazon actually receives stock and ships faster than their online estimates would indicate in this situation.

A slight rant here . . . but what I wouldn't give to just walk into a local record store and be able to pick up the newest LP release of the week easily. Like I said... a rant.
