How much HP does a NHRA Stock Eliminator engine make?
All said and done, this LT1 NHRA Stock Eliminator engine should crank out more than 500 hp to the flywheel and features an 11.1:1 compression ratio. Time to go racing!
What kind of engine does the LT1 NHRA eliminator have?
To top off the build, the LT1 engine is using a Holley EFI system since the factory one is not up to the capabilities needed for rpm and tunability in this level class of racing. All said and done, this LT1 NHRA Stock Eliminator engine should crank out more than 500 hp to the flywheel and features an 11.1:1 compression ratio.
What is the compression ratio of a Stock Eliminator engine?
All said and done, this LT1 NHRA Stock Eliminator engine should crank out more than 500 hp to the flywheel and features an 11.1:1 compression ratio. Time to go racing! The Engine of the Week eNewsletter is sponsored by PennGrade Motor Oil and Elring – Das Original.
How do I find the NHRA factored horsepower for my engine?
At the bottom of each column, you may find another number which represents the NHRA factored horsepower. This is the number used in determining classification (not the advertised), and some engines will have a different factored horsepower for Stock and Super Stock.

What camshaft will out run Summit 112?

Who said the 283 was fresh when taken out of the car?
True! This is what ronnie (the awesome gentlemen who donted the 283) keeps telling me! He said that motor was fresh when taken out of the car and stored in a heated garage! I said a few times i was going to take it apart and go through it and he keeps insisting just bolt it in and run it!
Can you put valve springs on stocker motors?
I'd put a set of new valve springs on that old stocker motor and run it without any other changes. Valve springs can get weak just sitting. I know, mine went flat after one season. New valve spring went in and it revved to the moon again. Many of those old NHRA stocker cams had nearly square lobes, so the springs can be critical.
Do stock cams retain lift?
Yes the cams must retain stock lift but they run insane duration in todays stock eliminator! This motor is from 1985 where it was basically a cheater cam with more duration! As far as compression 58cc chamber head, flat tops with 4 VRs , .18 tho gasket so compression was basically stock 9.0 or something, i do believe a normal cam would be better but because he insists just run it we freshened it right before we sold the car! and i checked rhe bearings and they do indeed look brand new! One thing i will clear up this is going in a drag car for my son to learn to drive stick shift !
How much HP does a 375 HP 396 have?
Thats easily explained. A well done 375 HP 396 makes 625 corrected HP, It takes 602 HP to run 132 MPH @ 3400 pounds. 132/1320=10.00 and that formula is just a jumping off point for A/SA Camaro you can do much better. So when you take into account how far past peak HP the 375 combination will RPM it makes a great race engine. Stock 840 casting heads flow 280 CFM @ .520 lift @ 28 inches.
What cylinder heads are superseded by NHRA?
It should also be mentioned that NHRA has allowed BBC several “superseded” part numbers for the 396/427 cylinder heads; including offerings from Edelbrock. There has been much development on not only the cylinder heads over the last few decades, but also in the short-block and drivetrain. Long gone are TRW pistons with 5/32” rings (even 1/16” rings are obsolete with allowable ring spacers which allow super thin metric rings), Aftermarket rods, cranks, blocks, oil pans, you name it, the parts are nothing like those in use 20+++ years ago.#N#Don’t jump on the “they are cheaters" bandwagon. Times have just changed. If you don’t think that’s right...that’s a different argument!
Why are stock elimination engines so fast?
These, and many other NHRA Stock Eliminator engines, are extremely fast because every facet of the engine is examined and optimized to work together. They are extremely efficient, given the limitations set forth by the rules.
Can a 69 Camaro exhaust be covered up?
The heads can't be "...ported out to the max and covered up". NHRA lists a maximum volume for the intake and exhaust port on each cylinder head. For a '69 Camaro 396-375 with the 858, 391 or 840 heads, the intakes can be no larger than 326.0 cc and the exhausts no larger than 120 cc. The 291 heads can have a 327 cc intake port and a 122 cc exhaust port. The 401 aluminum head that's also legal for this combination has the 320 cc intake/120 cc exhaust.
Does stocker have valve lift?
Yes. With the rules mandating stock valve lift for a particular engine (.520 int/ex in the case of the 396-375's being discussed), cam profile and low lift flow are major players in the power NHRA Stocker engines make.
Can you run a shaft rocker on stock elimination?
Rocker mounting must remain as produced in Stock Eliminator. In short, you can't run a shaft rocker system on any engine that originally came with stud mounted rockers. Like small/big block Chevies.
Is NA NHRA stocker mandatory?
Racing a NA NHRA stocker should be mandatory before any posting.
